People who record voice memos, lectures, and meetings on their iPhone are left with raw audio that takes time to review and is hard to search or share. Existing dictation tools, like the built-in iOS keyboard, only handle short casual dictation and don't produce summaries or action items. Sharing recordings also raises privacy concerns since most cloud dictation apps do not encrypt audio on-device before upload. This leaves users manually re-listening to hours of recordings to extract key points, or risking exposure of sensitive content when sharing.

Audio Notes is an iPhone app that records audio in the background, even with the screen locked, and transcribes speech into text in 60+ languages using OpenAI's Whisper model, including Cantonese and Mandarin. It automatically generates structured summaries, bullet points, and action items from every recording, and lets users chat with their notes to get grounded answers from the full transcript. Users can import and transcribe voice messages directly from apps like WhatsApp, LINE, Telegram, and others via the share sheet. For privacy, recordings stay on-device by default, and when shared, content is encrypted with AES-256 before it leaves the phone, with decryption keys living only in the share link, which expires automatically after 24 hours.
