Bloomy
Bloomy is an AI-powered mastery learning platform for K-12 ELA, Math, and Writing, sold to schools and families.
The Problem
K-12 students often move through grade-level content without actually mastering underlying skills, so gaps compound over time across ELA, Math, and Writing. Teachers in mixed-ability classrooms struggle to differentiate instruction and to give every student support without waiting for an adult to intervene. Existing diagnostic data from tools like i-Ready and NWEA MAP identifies gaps but does not on its own deliver the targeted, paced instruction needed to close them. Tracking which students are progressing and which need a check-in today is typically manual for teachers.
The Solution
Bloomy uses a diagnostic engine that ingests third-party data (i-Ready ELA benchmarks, NWEA MAP Growth scores) alongside its own assessments to identify specific skill gaps across a 6-domain ELA map and grade-specific Math domains, totaling over 1,200 standards-aligned skills. Each skill follows a three-stage scaffolded cycle (Base Camp instruction, Climb guided practice that adapts difficulty, and Summit, a no-hints mastery assessment requiring 90% proficiency to pass) before a student advances. A Socratic AI tutor called BloomyBot diagnoses the misconception behind wrong answers and guides students through reasoning via questions rather than giving answers, and is locked during assessments to prevent cognitive offloading. Teachers get a real-time dashboard with AI-generated class insights, skill-based grouping, and the ability to ask natural-language questions about student progress, such as preparing talking points for a parent meeting. The product also includes accessibility features like read-aloud, adjustable text size, and keyboard/screen-reader navigation, and a Writing Studio that extends AI-supported composition practice.
