ByChance

People in shared physical spaces like cafes, campuses, airports, and city spaces often cannot easily meet or connect with others who are right around them. The page frames this as a gap in real-world social presence, where being near someone does not translate into an actual connection. ByChance positions itself as addressing this by making nearby people discoverable, turning ordinary real-world settings into places where interaction can happen.

ByChance is a free app, available for iOS and Android, that lets users discover people within 200 meters of their location. It is built around real-world social presence, aiming to surface people who are already physically nearby rather than connecting users based on profiles or algorithms detached from location. The site describes it as designed for use across cafes, campuses, airports, and city spaces, and frames the core experience as making real life interactive by letting users meet whoever is around them in the moment.
