ByDefault
ByDefault helps companies track and improve how often ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI assistants recommend them over
The Problem
Companies increasingly get discovered through AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude instead of traditional search, but they have no visibility into which prompts mention them, how they rank against competitors, or which of their pages AI models actually cite. Without this insight, a business like a database provider or SaaS tool cannot tell whether AI is recommending it or sending customers to a rival instead, nor which content gaps are causing that loss. Teams are left guessing what to write to close those gaps, since the searches an AI model runs before answering a prompt are invisible to them.
The Solution
ByDefault tracks how a brand appears across AI assistants including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Cursor, and Perplexity, showing visibility scores, average ranking position, and which brands appear in each answer, rerun daily per prompt. It also logs crawler and citation traffic from bots like ChatGPT-User, Claude-User, and PerplexityBot to show which specific pages get cited and how often. A content agent identifies the prompts and searches competitors win, drafts articles designed to answer those exact queries, checks facts against the live web, and adds charts, diagrams, and screenshots; a second pass rewrites AI-sounding phrasing before the user approves and publishes via direct commit or pull request. Before publishing, users can preview expected search traffic, ranking difficulty, and how Google's AI Overview would cite the draft.
