Different AI
Open-source, free desktop AI workspace that lets teams run any LLM on their own files without vendor lock-in.
The Problem
Knowledge workers who want an AI agent workspace like Claude Cowork are locked into a single vendor (Anthropic), a single set of models, and cloud-hosted files. Teams cannot bring their own infrastructure, mix providers, or audit the underlying code, and sharing skills or MCP tools across an organization is not supported by Claude Cowork. This leaves teams dependent on one company's roadmap and pricing, with no way to self-host or guarantee their files never leave their machine.
The Solution
OpenWork is a free, open-source desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux, built on OpenCode, that lets users chat, run automations, and use a library of skills on their own local files. It supports 50+ LLM providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, local models) instead of locking users into one vendor, and keeps files on the user's machine with prompts sent directly to the chosen provider. It adds an MCP Gateway so a team's tools and skills can be used from any agent client, an AI Gateway for managing keys and limits across providers, and an optional Cloud app (OpenWork Web) with admin controls, SSO, and API access. Teams can package skills, MCP servers, plugins, and configs into a single importable link, and a one-prompt migration path moves existing plugins and skills over from Claude Cowork.
