Gamgee
Gamgee develops personalised mRNA cancer vaccines for dogs, based in Australia and running clinical trials.
The Problem
Dogs diagnosed with cancer often face limited treatment options; surgery, chemotherapy and immunotherapy can fail to stop the disease, leaving owners and vets with few further paths and short survival expectations. Founder Paul Conyngham encountered this directly when his dog Rosie was diagnosed with mast cell cancer in 2024 and standard treatments did not work, with vets giving her only months to live. This suggests a gap for dogs whose cancers do not respond to conventional therapy, where owners currently have no personalised treatment option tailored to the specific mutations driving their dog's cancer.
The Solution
Gamgee designs personalised mRNA cancer vaccines for dogs, built from an end-to-end process it manages itself. After reviewing a submitted case, Gamgee works with the dog's vet to confirm diagnosis and collect a tissue sample, which is sent to its genomics lab. The team analyses the sample to identify the mutations driving the cancer and designs a personalised treatment protocol, which is then administered by a veterinary oncologist while Gamgee monitors the response. The approach originated from a protocol the founder designed for his own dog, Rosie, which the site says added two years to her life after other treatments failed.
