The Problem

Mac users rely on Finder, which shows only filenames in lists, making it hard to visually identify files or search for them without knowing exact names or folder locations. People lose track of downloads, forget where files came from (email, Slack, websites), accumulate duplicate photos and old installers, and can't search the text inside screenshots. Finding a specific PDF, invoice, or screenshot often means digging through folders or remembering exact syntax, which wastes time and leaves clutter (old installers, duplicates, forgotten downloads) building up unnoticed on the disk.

The Solution

Homy is a native macOS app that shows files as big thumbnails organized into shelves (Images, Videos, Music, Documents, Archives, Apps) and lets users search using plain English, like 'pdfs from last week over 5 mb', translating queries into visible filter chips for type, date, size and source. It includes a Spotlight-style Quick Search (⇧⌘Space) usable from any app, a menu bar list of recent downloads, on-device text recognition inside screenshots and photos via Apple's Vision framework, a 'Downloaded From' view that groups files by source app like Gmail or Slack, duplicate detection using SHA-256 fingerprints and Vision feature prints, and Clean Up cards that surface old installers, forgotten downloads, and unused apps for one-click review and trashing. All processing (search, text recognition, duplicate detection) happens locally on the Mac with no cloud uploads, and files are only ever moved to the Trash, never deleted outright.
