The Problem

Heavy email users spend their mornings triaging mail: hunting for invoices, copying one-time codes, re-reading threads to find what needs a reply, and searching through attachments for receipts or boarding passes. Many existing 'smart' mail apps solve this by sending messages to a cloud AI to be read, which means a third party processes personal and financial correspondence. Mac users also deal with generic, slow, Electron-style email clients that struggle once an inbox has years of accumulated messages.

The Solution

LocalInbox is a native Swift Mac app that connects to Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail, Proton Mail, Zoho, AOL, GMX and any IMAP server, with Outlook and Microsoft 365 support planned. It runs its AI (Apple Intelligence, or Ollama/LM Studio on Intel Macs) entirely on the user's Mac to sort mail into categories like To Reply, Updates, Promotions and user-defined categories, flag phishing via look-alike domains and failed DMARC, surface one-time codes for quick copying, and answer natural-language questions about the mailbox with cited sources. Additional features include searchable text inside attachments and scanned images, Undo Send, Send Later and snooze, one-click unsubscribe with a Subscriptions view, keyboard-first navigation, menu bar and Spotlight integration, Shortcuts and Focus filter support, and synced signatures and templates via iClom. Privacy is built in: passwords live in the macOS Keychain, tracking pixels and link parameters are stripped, dangerous attachments are blocked, and the company states it operates no servers that see user mail.
