The Problem

Developers running long-lived compute tasks or AI agents need virtual machines that stay on, keep static IPs, and can be paused without losing state. Raw VPS providers and ephemeral sandboxes (like E2B or Modal) do not offer this combination of persistence, reproducibility, and agent-native control. Teams running agents also need a way to inject credentials, MCP servers, prompts, and environment variables into machines so agents can start working immediately rather than being reconfigured each time. Compute-heavy workloads like compilation or automated research need large, dedicated resources (up to 60 vCPUs, 240 GB RAM, or GPUs) without paying for idle time.

The Solution

machine0 offers virtual machines, from small CPU instances to multi-GPU configurations (H100, H200, L40S, MI300X, RTX 4000/6000 Ada), running NixOS or Ubuntu with tools like Docker, Node, Python, Claude Code, and Codex pre-installed. Every VM gets a static IP and an HTTPS endpoint at a vm.mac0.io subdomain, with no NAT or tunnels required, across five regions (US East, US West, UK, EU, Asia). VMs can be started, suspended (stopping compute billing while only charging for image storage), snapshotted into golden images, and resumed or cloned from those images. The CLI supports --json output for every operation, and a remote MCP server lets agents drive VM lifecycle and configuration programmatically. Profiles let users inject MCP servers, credentials, prompts, and environment variables into VMs so tools like Claude Code and Codex pick them up automatically, and a /create-machine skill can generate reproducible NixOS builds from natural-language descriptions.
