Ocular AI
Ocular AI supplies frontier AI labs and enterprises with human-expert-sourced training data
The Problem
Frontier AI labs and enterprises building voice-native and multimodal models find that today's models can solve olympiad problems and pass bar exams but fail at human nuance: negotiating a deal, reading a patient's face, or speaking with natural tone and timing. The text argues this gap exists because human expertise, like a surgeon's read of a scan or a trader's sense of risk in a pause, was never captured in training data and spans accents, dialects and cultures no model was trained on. Scaling compute or using synthetic data does not fix this, since the bottleneck is the richness of lived human experience rather than raw intelligence. Without better data, voice-native models struggle at basic tasks like accurately transcribing and attributing speech in real two-person conversations.
The Solution
Ocular AI is an applied research lab that pairs an Expert Network of professionals (PhD mathematicians, voice actors, constitutional lawyers, linguists) with a 'Data Foundry', a pipeline that turns captured human expertise into structured training data, alignment signals, and evaluations. It sells this through a Data Marketplace offering proprietary and open-source audio, voice, and audiovisual datasets, including hi-fi studio-grade voice data and full-duplex multilingual conversational datasets. It also builds and publishes benchmarks, Converse-STT and Converse-Diarization, which score frontier models like Nemotron, Gemini, Grok, GPT and Scribe on word error rate, character error rate, and diarization error rate using an open-source scoring harness on real two-person American English conversations. A separate 'Workbolt' workforce product and an AI Fellowship program appear to connect experts to this data-labeling work.
Why Now?
The site frames this as a 'Technological Renaissance' where models have memorized the internet and mastered logic and math, but still lack human nuance, and argues that more compute or synthetic data cannot close that gap.
