The Problem

Developers building AI agents need their agents to send and receive email like a person would, including signing up for services, getting OTP codes, and replying in threads. Traditional transactional email APIs like SendGrid or Postmark are built for one-way blasting at scale, not for receiving and replying in context. Shared inboxes or forwarding rules don't give each agent its own identity, and agents using regular consumer email like Gmail risk account suspension because their automation patterns look like spam. Parsing attachments like PDFs, CSVs, and invoices into usable text for an LLM is also not something standard email infrastructure handles.

The Solution

OpenMail provides a dedicated email inbox per agent, provisioned via a single API call or CLI command, with inbound mail delivered over webhook or WebSocket so nothing needs to poll. It offers sender allow/block rules per account or inbox to filter noise, and three usage modes (Tool, Notify, Channel) that control how much autonomy the agent has in replying to mail. Attachments such as PDFs, CSVs, images, XLSX, and DOCX are parsed into LLM-ready plain text rather than raw MIME. The product integrates directly with OpenClaw, Hermes, Claude Code, LangChain, n8n, Make, and the Vercel AI SDK, and is listed in the ChatGPT plugin directory. Every inbox comes pre-warmed with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, with the company managing sending reputation so mail lands in the primary inbox.

Why Now?

The company argues that Gmail suspends automated agent accounts and that existing transactional email APIs and alternatives (Proton, Outlook, Resend) were not built for agents that need to receive and reply, creating a gap purpose-built infrastructure should fill.
