The Problem
People save articles to read later but never get to them. The best time to read them is when your eyes and hands aren't free: while commuting, working out, doing chores, etc. Other reading apps are more interested in the reading and annotations experience while the listening experience is always an afterthought.
The Solution
Podcast apps already solve the listening experience — queue management, autoplay, speed control, sleep timers. Otzio just feeds them your articles. Paste a URL, and within minutes it appears as a new episode in Overcast, Pocket Casts, or Apple Podcasts. The app you already open regularly.
Why Now?
Text-to-speech has crossed the quality threshold where it's actually pleasant to listen to. Podcast apps are already on everyone's phone. The infrastructure cost to generate and serve audio has dropped to cents per article. The pieces are finally all in place for a simple, RSS-native solution that fits how people already listen.
What Makes This Hard?
The technical barrier is low, but the moat is structural. Established read-later apps such as Readwise, Matter, and Instapaper are built around in-app engagement: highlights, annotations, knowledge archives. RSS delivery cannibalizes that. It cuts against everything those products are built for. That's not a feature they're likely to ship seriously.
