The Problem

People who read, write, and learn new words in English and Spanish often look up a definition and then forget it, with no easy way to revisit words until they stick. Existing tools like Notes or Wikipedia bookmarks, mentioned by a user, scatter saved words across apps rather than keeping them in one place. Readers who hit an unfamiliar word while reading a book have to stop and type it into a separate dictionary or translator, breaking their flow. Without a system for repeated exposure, words looked up once are easily forgotten rather than becoming part of someone's working vocabulary.

The Solution

Palabros is an iPhone and iPad dictionary app covering English and Spanish that shows definitions grouped by part of speech, real example sentences, and plain-terms explanations on a single screen. Saved words reappear on the user's Home Screen through widgets using spaced repetition, including a Word of the Day guessing format and widgets of different sizes, with a Smart priority option in Palabros Pro that resurfaces harder words more often. A Reading Mode lets users say a word aloud while reading to get its meaning without typing, with an end of session summary to choose which words to save. The app also offers four review modes (choose the word, choose the definition, type the word, write it in your own words), translation between English and Spanish for specific meanings, interactive etymology, and works offline for core dictionary lookups, with advanced translations requiring internet access. A free tier allows limited saved words and three 20-minute Reading Mode sessions, while Palabros Pro (monthly, annual with trial, or lifetime) unlocks unlimited saving, all review modes, the review widget, advanced translations, tags, filters, word import, statistics, and widget customis
