Prototyping.io
Prototyping.io is building an AI-driven platform that turns CAD designs into CNC machined (and other) mechanical parts
The Problem
Companies that need custom mechanical parts made today rely on traditional sourcing processes that involve manual back-and-forth between designers and manufacturers to check manufacturability, choose a process, and get quotes. This back and forth can take weeks and introduces delays before a design ever reaches production. Teams working on functional prototypes or performance-critical applications are especially sensitive to these iteration cycles. The site frames this as a problem of inefficiency and manual work sitting between a finished CAD design and a finished physical part.
The Solution
Prototyping.io offers manufacturing across CNC machining, sheet metal, 3D printing, injection molding, extrusion, and die casting, with CNC machining described in the most detail: 3, 4 and 5-axis milling, CNC turning, and EDM, tolerances down to ±0.0002, no minimum order quantity, a long list of supported materials (aluminum, steel, titanium, various plastics), and finishing options like anodizing, plating, and powder coating. Its stated vision is to automate the steps between CAD design and finished parts: an AI agent captures design intent from uploaded 3D models, runs manufacturability analysis to flag issues early, plans production by selecting process, machines, and sourcing based on cost, lead time and complexity, then generates machine programs and manages manufacturing execution and quality control before shipping finished parts. The early access offering highlights AI-powered DFM (design-for-manufacturability) analysis and manufacturing insights on cost, speed, and quality.
