Rhem
Rhem makes a tabletop robot companion that helps seniors handle calls, errands, and health check-ins by voice.
The Problem
Elderly parents often need help with everyday tasks like refilling prescriptions, ordering groceries, booking appointments, and staying in touch with family, but may struggle with apps, buttons, or complex technology. Families worry about health and safety but cannot always be present to help with these tasks or to check in on wellbeing. Existing solutions may require learning new apps or wearing sensors for health readings. This leaves a gap for aging-in-place support that works through simple, natural conversation rather than screens or devices to learn.
The Solution
Rhem is a tabletop robot that lets a senior simply talk to ask for help, and it uses its own computer and phone-like capability to browse websites and make calls on their behalf, such as submitting a prescription refill request through a multi-step tool process. It includes built-in health check-ins like medication reminders, mood tracking, and sensor-free readings such as heart rate, plus expressive reactions developed with psychiatrists to give it personality. It can call, text, or send voice messages to family members on request. A companion product, Halo, offers radar-based fall detection that alerts chosen contacts (without a camera or microphone). Setup is designed to be simple: families can pre-configure Wi-Fi and record a welcome message before the device ships, and one-on-one phone setup help is included.
