Sable Spend
A budgeting app for cross-border US/Canada households offering YNAB-style features at a fraction of the price.
The Problem
People who budget across US and Canadian accounts have no way to see one true net worth, since apps like YNAB and Monarch don't combine currencies. Building a first budget from scratch is tedious, often described as taking a whole Sunday with a blank spreadsheet, because no one knows what number to put in categories like groceries. Meanwhile, established budgeting apps charge around $14.99/month, and users switching from Mint after it shut down were pushed toward an ads-driven company. Faith-conscious spenders also lack tools to track zakat obligations or check purchases against ethical boycott lists like BDS.
The Solution
Sable Spend is a budgeting app, available on web and iOS, that links bank accounts through Plaid and auto-categorizes transactions. It combines USD and CAD accounts into one real net worth figure, and auto-builds a starting budget by reading a user's real spending history rather than starting from a blank slate. It includes an AI assistant that answers plain-English questions like affordability of a vacation using actual account data, net worth forecasting 1 to 10+ years out, rollover budgets, split transactions, recurring transaction tracking, spouse/household sharing with two logins, and CSV import. For faith-conscious users it offers a daily Islamic reminder, an automatic zakat calculator, and a BDS boycott-list tracker that flags transactions at roughly 4,700 listed companies. Security is handled via Clerk for sign-in and Plaid for bank connections, with encryption in transit and at rest, and the company states it does not sell user data.
