ScanPay
Scan & Pay lets shoppers scan items in-store with their phone to see shop-approved prices before checkout
The Problem
Shoppers often cannot see a confirmed price until they reach the till, making it hard to track what a basket will actually cost while shopping. Shops, meanwhile, lack a simple digital way to display approved prices at the shelf and reconcile what happened during a purchase, relying on staff memory or paper records. This creates friction at checkout and uncertainty for staff verifying baskets at the exit, with no clear running total or audit trail during the shopping trip itself.
The Solution
Scan & Pay is a browser-based tool (no app download) that lets shoppers scan an item's barcode or camera-point at it to see the shop's approved price, which is added to a running basket total they can review and adjust before checkout. Shoppers enter a shop via an entrance QR code, pay at the till or via test phone payment, and show a digital receipt that exit staff scan to compare against the basket before approving exit. For shop owners, it provides a workspace to manage a product catalog (with CSV import and a separate-owner approval step before publishing), assign staff permissions for proposing catalog or stock changes, track cash shifts with opening float and closing variance, and review an audit history of sales and decisions. The current build is explicitly a test environment using synthetic items and test payments, with no live stock synchronization to external systems.
