People who regularly manage Excel files, including accountants, power users and data analysts, need to compare spreadsheets that come from different sources. Today they rely on VLOOKUP formulas or standard comparison tools that assume identical column order and row alignment. When files have columns in different orders, rows shuffled, or extra columns, these tools break or produce false differences. Users end up spending hours manually sorting, color-coding and rechecking results just to find the real differences, or start over when the tool fails entirely.

Sheetmatcher is a web-based, client-side tool that compares Excel files without relying on column position. Users drag and drop their files, select key columns, and the tool matches columns by name and rows by key values regardless of their order in the file. It supports multi-column composite keys (e.g. Product + Date + Customer, or SKU + Location) for accurate matching on complex business data. Advanced features include data mapping to reconcile different naming conventions between files and text-based fuzzy search for matching lists without perfect IDs. Results are shown as a report with matches, differences and missing data clearly highlighted, and can be exported to Excel; files are processed in the browser and not stored online.
