Smart Jelly
A private, personal AI app for Mac that combines chat, dictation, voice, meeting notes
The Problem
Mac users who want AI help with their work today end up paying for and juggling several separate apps: one for chat and voice (like ChatGPT Plus), one for dictation (Wispr Flow Pro), one for meeting notes (Granola Business), and one for tracking promises and follow-ups (Chaser). The page states these four subscriptions together cost around $65 a month, and because each app is siloed, none of them know what you said in the others, so you repeat context constantly. Meeting notetaker apps also typically join calls as a visible bot in the participant list, which Smart Jelly presents as an unwanted compromise. The result is scattered tools, duplicated memory, and manual tracking of what you promised to whom.
The Solution
Smart Jelly is a Mac app that bundles chat, voice, dictation, meeting prep/live assist/notetaking, document creation, early-access web agents, and an Open Loops feature for tracking promises, all connected by one shared memory of the user's work. Dictation works in any text box via a keyboard shortcut and is tuned to spell names correctly; voice can be invoked from any app with a hotkey and can type replies where the cursor is; meeting notes are taken without any bot joining the call. Agents work in their own browser, show every step, and pause before payments. Users can choose how processing runs: Smart Jelly's cloud, the user's own AI account via API key, or (coming soon) fully on-device, with the memory database always encrypted locally on the Mac. An MCP feature lets users share chosen parts of their memory with other AI tools like Claude or Cursor. The company reports an 87.6% score on BEAM, described as a public benchmark for long-term memory.
