Talanoa
Talanoa is a desktop email client that turns inboxes into chat-like conversations with a local AI assistant.
The Problem
Professionals across sales, engineering, HR, legal, and other roles deal with email threads buried under quotes, signatures, and disclaimers, making it hard to follow conversations. Important emails that need action get marked unread or labeled and then sit unresolved, with no real next step attached. Checking availability and scheduling meetings requires switching between a separate calendar app and email, generating extra back-and-forth messages. Finding past information means guessing keywords, applying filters, and opening multiple emails one by one, and sending email on unreliable connections like trains or planes often fails entirely.
The Solution
Talanoa is a downloadable email client for macOS, Windows, and Linux that displays messages as chat-like bubbles instead of traditional quoted threads, grouped by person rather than subject line. It lets users turn any email into a task with a due date, status, and notes while keeping the original conversation attached, and it embeds a calendar directly in the app so users can accept invitations and share booking links without leaving their inbox. A built-in AI, which runs locally on the user's device rather than in the cloud, can answer questions about emails, calendars, and todos with cited sources, summarize long threads into decisions and next steps, draft replies in the user's tone, and translate messages, all requiring user confirmation before sending. It connects to Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo, and IMAP accounts into one unified inbox, supports offline access that syncs once reconnected, and offers one-click unsubscribe and sender blocking.
