The Problem

Mac users who want the tactile, satisfying sound of a mechanical keyboard are stuck with silent laptop keys, and existing keyboard sound apps play every keystroke at the same volume, which sounds flat and mechanical. Developers using AI coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor or Codex also have to keep checking the terminal to see if the agent finished or needs input, which pulls attention away from other work. People wiping down their keyboard risk triggering unwanted keystrokes or clicks, and those who step away from a MacBook in public have no built-in way to know if someone touches or unplugs it.

The Solution

TapNoise is a one-time-purchase Mac app offering 20 keyboard sounds that play under every key in every app, with volume driven by the MacBook's motion sensor so soft and hard presses sound different and no two keystrokes sound identical. It adds Tappy, an on-screen keycap character with moods, levels, hats and a typing-speed tracker, plus extra sounds for lid opening, slaps, charger and USB plugs. For developers, it connects to Claude Code, Cursor and the Codex CLI to chime when an agent finishes, needs input, or errors, and lets users knock twice on the MacBook to bring that agent's window to the front. It also includes Clean Mode to freeze the keyboard and trackpad for wiping, Guard Mode to sound an alarm if the laptop is lifted or unplugged, and a Quiet in calls feature that mutes itself while the mic is in use.
