UTern
UTern gives college students a free AI agent that matches them to internships and helps employers screen candidates
The Problem
College students searching for internships face a flood of listings and have to figure out which roles fit their background, then prove their skills to employers who cannot easily verify a resume. Students often have relevant experience from coursework, side projects, clubs and GitHub repos that never gets surfaced or validated in a way employers trust. On the employer side, companies sorting through applicants have to rely on names, school rank or cold resumes rather than verified evidence of what a candidate actually did. This leaves strong candidates overlooked and makes it hard for employers to find people who truly fit a role.
The Solution
UTern provides an AI agent called Birdee that builds a verified 'Record' for each student by asking about their coursework, projects, jobs, club roles and GitHub work, then marking skills as 'checked' once the student explains them in a conversation. Birdee matches students to internships and new-grad roles from a database it reads daily, drafts application answers and outreach notes to alumni based on the student's real work, and suggests projects or courses to fill skill gaps for target roles. Students control what parts of their Record employers can see, and employers can browse anonymized Records (without name, photo or school) before a student chooses to reveal themselves. The platform also runs short paid work trials tied to real roles, with top submissions guaranteed an interview, and lets companies post roles for free.
