The Problem

Aviation and industrial power generation rely on turbines that consume significant fuel, require external water supply for steam injection or cooling, and emit NOx from high combustion temperatures. Companies and aircraft operators face a tradeoff between power output, fuel efficiency, and emissions, with water-dependent systems adding logistical constraints in power generation and flight applications. The site frames this as a cost to both carbon footprint and operational flexibility, particularly for industries like data centers and AI infrastructure now facing growing power demands.

The Solution

Viraj Aero is developing a proprietary closed-loop steam-injection turbine technology that captures water produced during combustion from the exhaust and reuses it, removing the need for an external water supply. This system is designed to extract more usable power per unit of fuel, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 output, while steam injection also lowers peak combustion temperatures to reduce NOx emissions. The company is building two product lines around this core technology: EYJA, a light aviation turbine, with plans to scale the same approach to larger aircraft engines, and GENA, a compact aircraft-engine-based system for on-site electricity generation, including applications for data centers and the AI industry.
