Volaren
Volaren gives individual investors and retail traders fund-style research tools: company valuation, backtesting
The Problem
Individual investors who want to beat the market lack the research team that hedge funds have. The founders argue that as more money moved into index funds, market inefficiencies reopened, but exploiting them still requires modeling companies like an analyst, tracking what top investors are doing, and testing strategies before trading them. Retail traders typically do not have access to DCF and comps models, filings-based tracking of funds and insiders, or tools to backtest a strategy against history. Without this, they are left guessing or relying on tips rather than structured analysis.
The Solution
Volaren is a web platform that lets users value any public company using DCF, comps, and street estimates side by side, build and weight portfolios around investment themes in a tool called Studio, and backtest strategies described in plain English against market history since 2010. Users can follow or copy predefined quant and fundamental strategies (rebalanced monthly or quarterly) or follow specific funds, insiders, and members of Congress based on their public filings. The product also includes 'Alphas,' AI agents that monitor news and earnings calls and surface what matters, plus a dashboard, screener, industry and macro research, and a data library. The site frames itself as 'a hedge fund on your desk,' offering a free plan with no card required.
Why Now?
The founders argue that efficient markets theory held while most money was actively managed, but the shift to index investing has reopened room to find mispriced opportunities that hedge funds, constrained by their size, cannot pursue.
